★ News from January 2006:
And a Happy New Year to you as well!
This morning, upon the arrival of the New Year, I was at the very front of the starting line for the Midnight Run in Central Park. I completed the 4-mile run in 30:10, a 7:32.5-minute mile. This was my first run since completing the NYC Marathon on November 6th! I lost some speed as I'm comparatively out of shape, but you gotta say, not bad for being out of shape, no?

This afternoon I had a costume fitting (and haircut) for the film Guerilla (apparently also known as Che). The shoot date is next week for a c. 1964 leftist party scene in which I play the nonpareil Young Man--"nonpareil" unless of course you count Young Man 2.
I was expecting but a sideburn trim given how the "haircut" went for my last '60's project, Julie Taymor's Across the Universe. So, I was a little surprised to get a full razor cut of my mane. I'm back from the longer, more conservative hairstyle I've been sporting of late to the choppier, shorter, messier hairstyle "ov myne Youthe." It looks a little like the photos of me revolving at the right. Fortunately, the woman who cut it was highly interested in doing a good job, and that she did.
Hey, it's only hair. It will grow out. No need for tears.

Today I worked on the film Guerilla. It was a party scene with Benicio Del Toro as Che Guevara, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Holding a champagne glass, I was standing around the center sofa sporting short hair, slicked to the side, wearing a dark and handsome pinstripe suit with a red tie.

This afternoon I taught improvisation with my improv group, Devil's Dancebelt, to people at Su Casa, a drug rehabilitation center in Lower Manhattan. Staff member Truett Vaigneur invited us. I introduced the concepts of long-form improv, DD did some improvised scenes based on their suggestions, then I had a few of the Su Casa residents perform their own scenes. They were great! DD rounded out the time with a miniature Harold.
